Ontario Skilled Trades

If you are a foreign national with Ontario work experience in an eligible skilled trade, you can apply for a nomination for permanent residence in Ontario with its very own Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).

In addition, a job offer is not required in order to qualify, but you need to receive a Notification of Interest from Ontario before you can apply for this stream.

To apply Under Ontario Skilled Trade Stream:

  • You do not need a job offer to apply. Please refer to section 12 of Ontario Regulation 422/17 and the application guide.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for one of the programs under Express Entry and have Express Entry profile number and a Job Seeker Validation Code.
  • Must have minimum education of a diploma, certificate or degree that is comparable to the Canadian education system.
  • Must have a either French or English level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 or higher in all language competencies (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).
  • Must have a legal status in Ontario (may it be a visitor record, study permit, or work permit) from the time of application, maintaining that status until the time of nomination.
  • Must have proof of settlement funds.
  • Must show intent to reside in demonstrated by a statement of intent and indication of ties to Ontario.
